Die Deutschsprachige Region von Santa Leopoldina in Espirito Santo benötigt Hilfe . “Dorf Tirol”  ist

eine Streu-Siedlung im Brasilianischen Urwald in der Grössenordnung eines Bezirkes in Österreich.

In 1857  hat eine Gruppe von Tirolern aus dem Stubai Tal ihre Heimat verlassen um in Brasilien  bessere Lebensbedingungen zu suchen. Es ging ihnen auch anfänglich ganz gut. Aber nach dem Verfall der Kaffeepreise ging es wirtschaftlich bergab. Die Medizinische Versorgung  lässt zu wünschen übrig und der Gesundheitszustand  dieser Alttiroler  war katastrophal, hat sich aber in den letzten Jahren gebessert .  Das Land Tirol, Südtirol  und private Spenden aus ganz Österreich und auch Deutschland haben bereits die ärgste Not gelindert.

Die Vereinigung Österreichischer Klubs in Australien und Neu Seeland  had einen

“Dorf Tirol Fond” gegründed.   Der Reinerlös der Filmtage “1000 Jahre Österreich”

in Sydney, welche von Jenny und Hermann Wandl arrangiert wurden, war der initial Beitrag zum Fond.

“In 1857 a group of Emigrants from the Austrian Tirol left their sparse mountain environment”  in search for a better future in the Rain Forests of Brazil.

In the early years they achieved a reasonable standard  of living. The decline of the coffee prices, early last century, plus a lack of infra structure in the region resulted in great poverty. The Brazilians call the area “Povre Europa”  Poor Europe. These poeple have retained their Tirolean culture and, to some degree, their Tiroleean Dialect.

Funds are now flowing into this region from various sources in Austria and South Tirol. Much more needs to be done. These hardworking people need and deserve help to make them selfsufficient again.
